Portales, New Mexico boasts "12,000 friendly people and 3 or 4 old grouches". (lol)

Because we had several hours to play with, we took a leisurely route through New Mexico as opposed to straight through Texas. Saw some beautiful yellow trees...

And was reminded that Christmas isn't too far around the corner!

I continue to be amazed at how quickly the landscape can change. Today we went from driving poker straight through the desert, to entering a pretty mountainous area that rapidly changed from being covered by tiny shrubs to tall pines, and then we were back to desert again. I even saw a few patches of that nasty white stuff today...ahhh!!...this, because we climbed 7150 feet above sea level.

Driving through this stretch made me wish we were travelling in a smaller vehicle. So many interesting shops along the way...pottery, wood carving, lots of little antique stores, gift shops, and just plain interesting places beckoning to be explored.

Quite a number of the stores had strings of red chili peppers hanging from them. They're called ristras. I wasn't able to snap a picture fast enough, but took this pic from Google to show you...now just imagine them covering the entire front of a store...some even shaped as hearts...

Some of the living arrangements I saw today were less than ideal...mobile homes and little shacks looking like beat up dumps, but just about every one of them had at least one horse, which I thought was interesting. I guess I could have snapped a picture or two of some of those homes (or whatever you want to call them) but just realized now that I didn't.

We're back down here in...Nooooo...El Pasoooo! Hopefully we get a load out tomorrow. Doubtful though considering it's Sunday.

Here's our view upon approaching the city...don't mind the bugs!

Well, that's it for tonight folks. We gotta go deliver this load.
