Halloween. Mine was spent watching movies in the bunk of a truck. How's that for excitement? Quite different from the traditional years of handing out candy.

I don't have a picture of a black cat, but how about this black bear we saw today...cool, huh?

I tried my best to get a decent shot of the pumpkin patches we've been passing of late, but this is the best I got. Poor little pumpkin rejects...never to be carved...BOO-hoo.

Here's a mean one...Oooooo, scary truck! (Hey, it's the best I could come up with out here).

We're still in Pennsylvania. Makes me think of Transylvania. Dracula and all that. Wish I had a scary movie to watch. Dwayne hates those. Will have to wait till I get home to watch one with my daughter.

Tomorrow, we're heading towards Des Moines, Iowa.

(BTW: That bear isn't alive...it's stuffed. Fish are real, bear isn't. Had ya, didn't I?) ;)

Today's been a lo-o-o-ng day. Started out at 5 a.m. It's currently 9 p.m. and we're still not done. Too weary to blog much of anything this evening, but I do leave you with a cool pic taken yesterday in New Jersey. Was neat to watch the planes taking off/landing right next to the highway.

We're in Pennsylvania. Check in with me tomorrow would ya. I should be in better spirits. Speaking of spirits, may the mischief makers stay away from you on this Devil's Night.

Pooping on demand. Yes, that's right...I said 'pooping on demand'. There are times out here when you may have the opportunity but not the...shall I say...urge. And there are other times when you may have the urge but not the opportunity. I now know what a dog feels like! So far, so good, but I'm certain there'll come a day when there's going to be a red alert in the red beast!

To my legal friends back home, I'm going to assume that those of you who read this blog do so the morning after it's posted, or at some point during your work day, such that it will be Friday when you read this. Figured the following would be cute for a Friday chuckle...

In Antlers, there are a couple of law offices. One in particular caught my attention. The top of the building is adorned with gargoyles! (lol). Not only that, but the windows are tinted black and the entrance way is lit by two flickering orange candle-like lights! I kid you not! A future job perhaps?(lol) Time did not afford me the opportunity to snap a good picture, but at least you can see one of the gargoyles in this shot...

Or perhaps I will secure future employment at this law firm, a half hour drive away in McAlester...
Although, take away the "&", and do I really want to work there? (lol) Guys must love retaining this firm. :)

And for those of you who know Nancy, bet you didn't know that when she took time off a number of years ago, she actually set up a little business in Antlers...

Yup, Nancy's Liquor & Drive Thru Beer is doing quite well.

TGIF! Have a great weekend! And be thankful for your washrooms. ;)

Happy Birthday to my Hubby!!! 45 today. We're gettin' up there! I'll always be younger than him though.;) Sometimes it feels like by the time we get our cabin built, we'll both be walking around with canes and spending a lot of time in our rockers.

Dwayne has a fondness for trains, especially the model type ones. Whenever we see a train out on the road, he usually grabs for the camera. During our few days off, we drove through a town called McAlester and saw this old trolley car on display at an abandoned restaurant...

As mentioned in a previous post, my husband is also quite passionate about Liberty and the right to bear arms. Hung above the check out counter of the gun store we recently attended, there is a poster exhibiting the Second Amendment to the US Constitution...the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed...

Lastly, in honour of his birthday, I post a pic of the flag of his beloved country (they're everywhere down here)...this particular one in his beloved Oklahoma...

Today was wet and dreary. It's been that way for several days now and it's having a negative affect on my mood. Dwayne's too. (or is it 'effect'? I always get those two mixed up). When you're constantly exposed to such dreariness through the windows of a truck, it gets to you after awhile. Rain, rain, go away...Brenda wants a sunshine day. :)

We're in Syracuse, New York, hoping to find a spot for the night at the truckstop 30 miles up the road.

'Fangboner Road'. ...Ahhh, some of the names I see out here. That one actually made me chuckle out loud.

Seeing the Fangboner sign today, and with Halloween just around the corner, I thought I'd turn our thoughts to cemeteries. Yes, cemeteries...I love them! The old ones that is. (Again, I'm a little strange). There are a number of old cemeteries around the Antlers area that I look forward to exploring one day. For now, I will share some of the pics I snapped the other day at the main cemetery right in Antlers.

Nice big trees...

I like this one, but first the story...A few years ago, when Amber came with us to visit Antlers, it was her mission to find what she called a "hick" tombstone in this cemetery. When she came across Mr. Borden's, she wasn't disappointed. Mr. Borden passed away in 1919..."When I Was Called By Death To Go, My Savior Tuck Me Home". "Tuck"...lol!

"She was the sunshine of our home"....awwww.

Quite a number of babies, which all have baby lambs resting on them...

Some are marked with simply initials...

Others are barely legible...

Huh? Key to eternal life maybe???...

Mysterious...

Old, and quite frankly, ugly...but later updated. Good thing, because we wouldn't know who was buried there otherwise...illegible...

And many are just plain interesting...

(This is Mr. Borden's by the way)...

And last, but not least...I'm guessing this guy must have been one miserable old fart...as evidenced by the obvious sourness of the soil beneath him, whadda ya think? ;)

"Tracks from high speed chase lead almost to Mrs. Witt's front door."

Front page news of the Clayton Today newspaper. Don't ya just love small community newspapers? (By the way, Clayton is near Antlers). And there's a whole 2 pages dedicated to "Faith, News & Family Values" where the pastors of each of the area churches write a section. Turn the page, and you've got pictures from the Baptist Church Archery Shoot. I find it all very uplifting. :)

On our walk yesterday, we found this cute little fuzzy wuzzy guy starting to cross the road. I love finding these guys...seems so rare. Picked him up and placed him on a tree branch. Hopefully he didn't mind, but figured he'd be better off there than schmucked on the road.

We're on our way to Chicago. Won't be seeing any of these kind of sights out there...

Was a good decision to pass them, don't ya think? (lol)

Take a journey to our property in Southeast Oklahoma near Antlers...

We start out on a nicely paved highway...

We turn onto a rural paved road...

Which eventually leads to a dirt road...

Which gradually degrades to a remote, narrow dirt road with little streams, rocks, potholes, etc. to dodge...but you can still get there by car...

The area is known as the Kiamichi Wilderness...

And this is our peacefully beautiful property...5 acres of it...

I love this pic...

If you look re-e-e-ally closely, you will see Dwayne standing where we intend to build the cabin (look for the blue). This pic is taken from the road...

Dwayne walking the road alongside our property...Keylock's there up front...

We have a lot of pine trees on the property. It was nice just to quietly stand there and listen to the wind whispering through the pines, with the birds and crickets chirping. If I close my eyes, I can still hear it...

Dwayne already starting to do some work...we have this one wet spot...

We noticed that we have new neighbours since we last visited...someone to borrow a cup of sugar from...or as my daughter said, some squirrel meat...a little too remote for her (lol)...

Our only cacti...

A wet year...

We have little pumpkin mushrooms growing, just in time for Halloween! (the orange doesn't show up too well in this picture)...

Pretty purple berries...

And, finally, we drove around and came upon this cabin, which is somewhat similar to what Dwayne intends to build, except that we want the porch to wrap around the whole house...

Thanks for coming along. We look forward to the day that our dream becomes a reality and we can sit out on our front porch in our rocking chairs, sipping tea/coffee, listening to the sounds of nature and keeping a look out for the deer crossing our land. It is the deer capital of the world you know. :)
