Blown away?

That was the subject line of an e-mail I received yesterday evening from a friend back home. As this was about the 4th e-mail I'd received asking if I was okay, I figured something was up, so I Googled "tornadoes in 2011" only to discover that some 240 tornadoes had been reported in the last 3 days in the States. No wonder!! I had no idea!

I've never been one to pay much attention to the news. Even more so now that we currently do not have a TV, nor do we get a newspaper, and the radio station we listen to plays 80's music with no news broadcasts. I suppose I should get in the habit of checking on-line to find out what's happening in the world.

So my friends, I am indeed alive! Closest tornado was about 120 miles away.

My friend cautioned me to "listen for the sirens!". Not really sure what good that would do. Do you know that basements are uncommon in Oklahoma? Where am I supposed to go? The bathtub? I tell ya, if I had a house down here, I'd at least be installing a storm shelter.

Every Saturday at noon, the Oklahoma City metro runs a test of their early warning system, so you hear the sirens. You know what would really suck? Having a tornado hit around noon on a Saturday.

Wish I'd known about the weekend storms....might have convinced hubby to go storm chasing. One of the things on my bucket list is to see a tornado. Think I may have come to the right place. :)

P.S. After reading this post, hubby informs me that they won't sound the sirens on Saturday if the weather is bad....unless of course there is an actual tornado warning in effect. Still would suck to have a tornado happen at that time. Would no doubt cause some confusion.
