Steel Challenge.
That's where hubby and I went Saturday morning. He participated. I was a spectator, despite his urging to give it a try. Perhaps in future. For now, I lack confidence.
It's a fun gun competition. $10 entry fee. You shoot at 5 steel plates and are given 30 seconds to do so. Misses add a 3 second penalty, although you are free to shoot at a plate as many times as you like to hit it, should you choose. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether or not you've hit it. The 'ping' sound can be difficult to hear when you're wearing ear protection, depending on the caliber you're shooting (you bring your own gun and ammo). A puff of dirt in the background is a sure sign you've missed!
Each participant goes through 8 stages of fire, meaning the plates are set up at different configurations at each stage. Each stage consists of 5 strings, meaning you get to shoot at the plates 5 separate times, within a 30 second window each time. Of course, the whole idea is to shoot as fast as you can. Out of the 5 strings, they drop your lowest score and average out your time on the remaining 4. In our squad there were about 10 shooters. All 10 take their turn at a stage before moving on to the next one. It was enjoyable to watch. Some really great shooters. The youngest was about 15 or 16 years old. He was one of the better shooters. The oldest was about 65.
Nice bum shot, eh?)
In case you're wondering, no hubby didn't win. I'm afraid I didn't offer much encouragement either. After his first round, I told him he sucked!(lol) Lightheartedly of course. He got better as the challenge went on. We only did 4 stages; left when they broke for lunch. It was a 2 hour drive each way. The prize is simply bragging rights. It's all for fun. And fun it was. Lots of laughs. And no one got shot. Imagine that? All those guns around. People kill people folks.

Hey Brenda, glad you and Dwayne finally got together.
He might have told you, we share a lot of interests, concepts, and a love of dogs.
Dwayne hates the East coast, and were I to move (impossible! would take 8-10 40' loads to haul all my precious junk) it would be to an area like West VA that has mountains and limited number of people. Ain't gonna happen- too old. so I guess that phone calls and Internet will continue to be our communication.
Welcome!!
Herbie
Thanks Herb!
